Nestled in the heart of Hazel Park, MI, Loui's Pizza stands as a treasured gem for lovers of authentic Detroit-style pizza. This cherished pizza restaurant brings a slice of Detroit’s rich culinary heritage directly to your table, serving a menu that truly satisfies both traditional and adventurous palates alike.
At Loui's, the star of the show is undoubtedly their Detroit Style Pizza. With a thick, fluffy crust that provides a perfect chewy base, this pizza is finished with a delectably crispy cheese edge that crackles with flavor in every bite. Customers often rave about the perfect harmony of a balanced sauce layered on top, making each slice a sublime blend of texture and taste. But Loui's menu doesn’t stop there—whether you're craving the fresh, vibrant flavors of their Greek Salad, packed with crisp greens, black olives, beets, and feta, or the comforting warmth of Spaghetti and Meatballs, there is something to delight every appetite.
For those seeking a hearty sandwich, the Large Grilled Cheese Steak with Loui's Special Sauce is an indulgence worth trying. Meanwhile, the Italian Sausage Sandwiches, available with green peppers, onions, or both, offer a savory punch that perfectly complements a day’s worth of conversation and laughter around the table.
The dining atmosphere at Loui's echoes the warmth of a classic neighborhood pizzeria. Its lively yet welcoming vibe buzzes with the chatter of families and groups of friends savoring their meals, punctuated by friendly, attentive service that makes every guest feel right at home. As reviewer Rorie Merz beautifully put it, the experience is “a perfect evening of fun and great food,” which the popular cheese breadsticks and fresh salads only enhance.
Loui's also boasts an impressive wine list featuring selections such as Merlot, Chianti, and Pinot Grigio, allowing guests to pair their meals with a glass that complements their flavors perfectly. For those who enjoy a bit of whimsy, don’t miss the chance to grab a bottle of Canti and personalize it—a charming touch that adds to the overall dining delight.
While parking during peak times can be a bit of a challenge, as noted by patrons who have found street parking nearby, it’s a small trade-off for the exceptional food and atmosphere waiting inside. Many reviews highlight the generous portion sizes—ordering “small” still means plenty to share and savor for later. Whether you’re a local or just passing through Hazel Park, Loui’s Pizza exemplifies the very best of Detroit’s pizza tradition, making it a must-visit spot for anyone craving crispy, cheesy crusts and soulful Italian-American comfort food.
Step inside Loui's Pizza and you’re not just enjoying a meal—you’re becoming part of a tradition steeped in flavor, community, and genuine hospitality.
I thought DEE-TRIOT style pizza was just what they called a Sicilian pizza (like the Detroit Coney dogs that are just chili dogs). To top it off, I even had a Detroit style pizza at another place that confirmed all my suspicions. TERRIBLE! Enter my coworker, a Detroit native who stepped in to put me straight. She recommended Loui's and told me that straight up this was THE BEST Detroit Style Pizza place. I took her up on it and BAM! This pizza is great. It's got cheese and toppings and the sauce is fresh and tasty, but it's that crust that makes it. Thick crust (which I usually DESPISE), but it's super crispy all around. Like BIG CRISPY juxtaposed against soft chew and that texture combo is a knockout.
Really good pizza. Some of the best crust you'll ever have. The BBQ chicken pizza was phenomenal. Small is 4 pieces , and each piece is big! If you order too much you'll definitely have leftovers (a good thing!). Prices are reasonable for what you get. Or server was really nice. Only 1 unisex bathroom. Parking lot attached. Very busy Saturday night. There was also free street parking. When you get there you need to put your name in at the entrance and wait outside until they text you.
This is the original Detroit style pizza and restaurant. Pizza is delicious with crispy cheese crust and balanced sauce. Crust is fluffy. Get the bottle of canti that you can decorate yourself. Fun Greek salad was great. Fresh crispy and packed with black olives beats and feta Throw in some cheese bread sticks.....you have to order these. and you have a perfect evening of fun and great food.
Have been wanting to try this place for a while and glad the parking and long wait for a table did not deter us. The ambience was great — noisy but not so loud that you had to shout across the table for your party to hear you — and the waitress was friendly and attentive despite it being a busy Saturday night. She was helpful when we asked about the sizes of the dishes and we were glad she talked us into sizing down for the salad and pizza. We ordered antipasto for the famous dressing, a small Detroit style pizza (my husband and I were barely able to finish 1 1/2 squares), and my daughters ordered a small ravioli with meat sauce and a spaghetti with meat sauce each. The crust in the pizza was crispy and the cheese pull for the stuffing was 10/10. We are normally thin crust/NY style pizza fans but this was definitely tasty. The crust dipped in the homemade ranch was also delicious. For us the stars of the show were the salad (perfectly dressed) and the spaghetti. The spaghetti sauce was slightly sweet which is how we like our sauce and they were generous with the meat. I would come back and endure the wait just for the pasta dishes! We had no room for dessert but will be fighting over who gets to eat the leftovers over the next couple of days.
This place is amazing and exceeded our expectations on a Saturday evening! We have bookmarked this place to get a bite of Detriot style pizza. The parking lot is challenging, and we park in the lot opposite to Loui's. As we entered the restaurant, we could feel a completely different vibe with a lot of bottles hanging on the ceiling and a lot of families having conversations and enjoying their food. It felt this was a great place. We were greeted and provided a seating. We ordered mediterranean salad, Cheese Ravioli, and then the pizza. The waitress was courteous and mentioned the full house and wait times. The food came in about 30 minutes. The salad was well prepared, and we all liked it. The cheese ravioli was perfectly made, and the sauce was just right and thoroughly enjoyable and must try. Then we got the pizza, perfect crispy and cheese, and we can feel the goodness in taste on every bite. This was one of the best pizzas we had in some time. It's definitely worth the visit and hype for this joint.
This pizza was the best pizza I've ever eaten.I'm not a huge pizza fan, though we order it quite frequently. This pizza beat any I had in NYC or Chicago. This is crave worthy pizza. BEST PIZZA IN THE WORLD!!!! The crust is cheesy, flavorful, and light. The amount of cheese to crust is one to one and perfect. The cheese has so much flavor and so does the sauce. Aside from the amazing pizza the atmosphere was so cool. For $20 we got a bottle of wine, got to decorate it, and hang it. The service was so nice and welcoming.
Pretty damn near perfect as far as Detroit pizzas go. Got a large to go w everything except anchovies. Easy pickup, decent price, they told me 30 mins on the phone and it was ready as soon as I walked in 30 mins later.
When people say “That’s a classic,” they’re talking about this place. I got BBQ chicken pizza & pepperoni pizza, both Detroit style…and they just blew me away. THE BEST I’ve ever tasted. Crazy flavor popping in my mouth. The textures. That crunchy buttery crust. The antipasto salad and that dressing were also top notch. The lady at the front door was charming. She shared a lot of Loui’s history (they opened in 1977) and said they’ve never advertised: their ongoing success is ALL word of mouth. And now that I’ve died and gone to Pizza Heaven, I can absolutely believe that. The ambience is warm and inviting with a rustic Italian vibe. Loui’s has definitely helped forge Detroit’s reputation as a pizza-lover’s must go-to. Bravo!
